Why Becoming a B Corp™ Matters to Us

Right from the start, sustainability shaped the core of who we are. “Ever since we started 1000, we wanted to become B-Corp certified. In our eyes, it was probably the most legit sustainability certification a company could have. It's something that really strengthens our efforts and ambitions”. Becoming a B Corp™ felt natural because this framework reflects exactly who we are and who we aim to be: a purpose-driven ski brand working to be as sustainable as a ski brand can be, and a company striving to lead by example within our industry.

The B Corp Certification is the beginning of a structured journey of continuous improvement. For us, that journey started long before applying. “We started our sustainability journey out of passion. I got a random DM, and didn’t answer it for a year. When I finally did, it turned out to be Levi Kammer, who’s now been working with us for 3 years, and we’re a great team”. Since 2022, Levi and Magnus have worked side by side to prepare for B Corp™ verification. Neither began as an expert, but both brought genuine commitment and willingness to evolve. “My parents are biologists and have been aware of climate change for decades. I grew up knowing all of this. Levi has found his way into sustainability too. Our work comes from a good mentality, and because we built the company from these principles, we didn’t need to reframe anything”.

The B Impact Assessment deepened that work even further. As B Lab emphasizes, the certification evaluates companies across five impact areas: Workers, Environment, Customers, Community, and Governance. Going through the process helped us formalize and strengthen every area. “We used to only have our vision, and now we have documentation, policies, and structure behind everything. We learned about new aspects of sustainability we hadn’t considered yet and improved the ones we already cared about”.

What It Means to Be Part of the B Corp™ Community

Being a B Corp™ means being part of a global community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact. We will work to continually improve, and to recertify every three years to ensure we keep raising the bar as standards rise. As the Brand Book reminds us, the B Corp community is built on shared values called the Declaration of Interdependence:

  • Business should be a force for good®
  • Companies must consider all stakeholders
  • Business should aspire to do no harm and benefit all
  • We are responsible for each other and future generations

We envision a world where companies contribute to the betterment of society and the environment. Companies should be purpose-driven and use their power for a better tomorrow. Shareholders and money should be priority number 2, because the planet can’t handle anything else. If the planet’s not in balance, the whole system will collapse. We’re excited to be part of the B Corp movement because we need to be the change we seek in the world, and we’re responsible for one another and for future generations”.

We meet high standards across the five B Impact pillars. We support our workers by improving wellbeing, safety, and fairness across our workplace. We prioritize the planet by considering environmental impact in every decision, from materials and manufacturing to logistics and circularity. We ensure that our products and experiences contribute positively to our customers’ lives. We give back to both local and global communities through engagement and support. And we embed stakeholder governance and accountability into every aspect of how we run the company. These pillars guide how we grow and how we make decisions. We’re legally accountable to all stakeholders, with our commitment to environmental and social impact formally embedded in our articles of association. We’re also committed to transparency, with our full B Corp profile publicly available and updated as our work progresses. And because B Corp Certification is a framework for continuous improvement, we’ll undergo recertification every three years to demonstrate our progress and align with B Lab’s continuously evolving standards.

Becoming a Certified B Corporation™ doesn’t mean we’ve reached the end, we’re only accelerating. It means we’re stepping more fully into a framework that challenges us to keep improving, keep learning, and keep pushing our industry forward. “We’re just beyond thrilled to have this certification. Now we can finally say it, and it’s absolutely amazing. Thank you”.

Shipping Smarter: Ocean Freight Shrinks Our Carbon Footprint

Switching from flying individual orders to shipping bulk batches by boat has cut our emissions by about 94%. The exact numbers are estimates, but the difference is clear, slower shipping means a lighter footprint. It’s a change that keeps our skis moving forward, with far less impact on the planet.
