Movement is naturally a part of our work. We travel for events, product shoots, meetings, and to access the backcountry. But with travel comes impact. Our skis have a footprint of 28.8kg CO₂e which, in the whole scheme of things, isn't a lot. A single flight from Stockholm to Åre can generate nearly 300kg CO₂e. Put simply: one short flight can equal the emissions of ten pairs of 1000 skis.
Our new Sustainable Travel & Mountain Access Policy is built on a simple idea: choose the least carbon-intensive option whenever possible. In practice, this means that within Europe trains become the default. Where trains are limited, shared journeys such as buses, carpooling, or electric car rentals take priority. Flights under 1,000km are avoided unless a reasonable alternative exists. When flying is necessary, itineraries remain direct, emissions are compensated and gear transport is consolidated to reduce unnecessary shipments.
Taking the train is something the whole company genuinely embraces. Train gang meeting at Stockholm Central, getting stoked before rolling south — that vibe is immaculate. This policy simply makes it clear that this is how we choose to travel when we can. Our impact doesn’t stop at transportation. The policy also encourages choosing eco-certified accommodation, supporting local businesses and serving vegetarian meals at all 1000 hosted events, with room for exceptions when food is responsibly sourced locally.

Once we reach the mountains, respect remains key. Human-powered access like ski touring is prioritized over mechanized methods. Snowmobiles or similar tools are used only when essential, and heli-skiing is no longer permitted on any 1000 sponsored trips or projects. We’ve also committed to ensuring the content we create does not glamorize high-carbon activities, instead highlighting a mountain culture grounded in intention.
We believe sustainability should be rewarded. To support this shift, we’re introducing clear incentives for employees and team riders. Choosing low-emission travel can earn extra paid vacation days and team riders who consistently make sustainable travel choices will receive a 10% bonus on their total contract payment. Reduced emissions ultimately reduce our operational costs as well, for example, through a reduced need for climate financing. As far as we know, no other ski brand has a travel policy quite like this. We’re proud to take the lead, and excited to see how it shapes the way our employees and riders move.
This initiative won’t stop with our own team. We’re already exploring ways to involve the entire 1000 community by offering potential discounts with train companies, lower-impact accommodation deals, and partnerships that make sustainable travel more accessible. We already showcase low-emission trip examples, like traveling by train, to inspire our audience, but we also want to go further and provide real incentives. Ski travel has a significant impact and is a big part of skiing today, and empowering our community to make better choices can multiply the effect of this policy far beyond our company.
We know that protecting the mountains requires responsibility. This policy is about awareness, intention, and choosing better every time we can, for the next generation of skiers.
