Magnus Granér | Founder interview

We Made a Podcast. Sort Of. Half the company is in Biarritz right now. The official reason is work. The real reason is that the Atlantic has waves in September and the Alps do not have snow yet. So we put two chairs on a balcony, a camera in front of them, clipped a mic on Magnus and pressed record.

Fifty minutes later we had our first podcast. Magnus Granér, co-founder, film skier, X Games Real Ski winner, the guy who takes the train to the Alps. And me asking the questions.

It's the first one, so we don't know what this is yet. The plan is to sit down with every owner of 1000skis, one at a time, same setup, and see where it goes. If people watch, we keep going. If people have questions they want asked, tell us.

We start where Magnus started, with a brother and a bunch of dogs, and get to what he skis now. His words: "I'm very much a hybrid all-terrain vehicle." Then the thing that keeps him up at night this autumn.

We talk about why he filmed instead of competing. Then the one contest that mattered: the six weeks filming X Games Real Ski, the week everything snapped, the 070 Shake soundtrack, and driving to Denver to collect gold with Henrik in second and LJ in third.

We talk about the beginning of 1000skis. The five prototypes we skied blind for days before anyone knew what was inside them. And the first team week in Engelberg, when it stopped being an idea and started being a team.

We get into the sustainability thing, properly. Where it comes from, why he stopped flying, what a footprint calculator was actually built for, and why he thinks brands that try to please everyone end up with nothing to say.

How a Ski Is Made

Every pair of 1000skis is built by hand at Åre Ski Factory, a small ski factory in the mountains of northern Sweden, a short walk from the lifts of Åre, the country's biggest ski resort. A crew of skiers has been building skis and snowboards there since 1981. We've built every pair of 1000skis there since the company started in 2021, and we've learned more about skis from them than from anywhere else.

Five Years. Still Red.

Five years ago today, 1000 went live. A website, three red skis, and six people refreshing the page to see if anyone would actually buy a pair. But it didn't start there. It started with a phone call I'd been dying to make.

Sustainable Travel and Mountain Access

At 1000, the mountains are the reason we exist. The snow, the landscapes, and the communities surrounding them shape everything from our design process to our values and, importantly, the way we travel.

Shipping Smarter: Ocean Freight Shrinks Our Carbon Footprint

Switching from flying individual orders to shipping bulk batches by boat has cut our emissions by about 94%. The exact numbers are estimates, but the difference is clear, slower shipping means a lighter footprint. It’s a change that keeps our skis moving forward, with far less impact on the planet.

Why we do collabs

We only create collaborations we genuinely stand behind, projects with brands we truly believe in. That shared passion leads to products built with care and intention. That’s the only thing that feels right for us.
